Interstitial lung disease (ILD) describes a group of conditions that cause inflammation or scarring of the lungs. Diagnosis can be complex and may require careful review of symptoms, lung function, blood tests and CT imaging.
Dr Tim Gatheral is a Consultant Respiratory Physician with specialist expertise in interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis.
Tim is a lead consultant in the North Lancashire & South Cumbria ILD Network with a busy NHS specialist practice. He has been Principal Investigator for several NIHR & commercial ILD clinical trials, and has published peer-reviewed research in interstitial lung disease.

Specialist consultations are available for patients with established or suspected ILD, including:
Pulmonary fibrosis and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)
Connective tissue disease-associated ILD (CTD-ILD)
Rheumatoid arthritis-associated lung disease
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
Drug-induced lung disease
Uncertain or unexplained abnormalities on Chest X-ray or CT
Consultations can include review of previous investigations and CT imaging, advice regarding diagnosis and treatment, or an independent second opinion.
