Chronic cough

Persistent cough is common but can be extremely disruptive, affecting sleep, work, social life and overall quality of life.

I offer comprehensive specialist assessment to identify underlying causes and treatable factors, particularly where symptoms have persisted despite previous investigation or treatment.

For refractory or unexplained chronic cough, treatment may include cough-specific therapies and newer treatments targeting cough reflex hypersensitivity such as gefapixant, where clinically appropriate.

Bronchiectasis & Recurrent Chest Infections

Bronchiectasis is a long-term condition in which damaged airways can lead to persistent cough, sputum production and recurrent chest infections.

I offer specialist assessment to investigate underlying causes, reduce the risk of exacerbations and develop an individual treatment plan.

I have a particular clinical and research interest in bronchiectasis, having contributed to national clinical trials and research publications in this field.

Breathlessness and Complex Respiratory Symptoms

Breathlessness can have many causes and establishing the diagnosis is not always straightforward, particularly where initial investigations have been inconclusive or symptoms have several possible explanations.

I offer detailed specialist assessment, bringing together the clinical history, previous investigations and imaging.

Where required, onward referral can be arranged for additional diagnostic tests, including comprehensive lung function testing and CT chest imaging, with full pulmonary function testing available locally in both York and Preston.

Other Respiratory Conditions

I also assess and manage a broad range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD and emphysema, pleural disease, recurrent respiratory infections and abnormal findings on chest X-rays or CT scans.

For patients with suspected or established interstitial lung disease or pulmonary fibrosis, I offer dedicated specialist assessment and second opinions through my ILD service.
